My site has the same articles in English and Urdu on different URLs. Do I need hreflang, and how should I set it up?
Yes. Whenever the same page exists in two or more languages, hreflang tells Google which version to show each searcher. For an English and Urdu site you usually do not need country codes: use hreflang="en" for the English URL and hreflang="ur" for the Urdu URL, plus an x-default (normally the English version).
Place the same full set of tags in the head of both versions, so each page references itself and the other one. Use absolute https URLs, make sure both pages are indexable and not redirected, and give each version a self-referencing canonical (never canonicalise the Urdu page to the English one).
You can create the tags in seconds with our free Hreflang Tag Generator, and our hreflang guide covers common mistakes.
