Is there an ideal number of internal links per article? I do not want to overdo it.
There is no fixed number Google rewards. A practical rule is to add internal links wherever they genuinely help the reader go deeper, which for a typical 1,500 to 2,500 word article often works out to roughly 5 to 10 contextual links, spread through the introduction, body and conclusion.
Focus on quality: link to closely related pages, use descriptive anchor text instead of "click here", and avoid repeating the same link many times. Make sure your most important pages (services, tools, pillar guides) receive links from relevant posts, and that new posts are linked from at least one or two older ones so Google finds them quickly.
Also check that every link points to a live, indexable URL with no redirect chains. Links in the main content carry more context than sidebar or footer links.
